ONCE UPON A TIME AT ABBEY THEATRE: THE WEIR, WB YEATS AND IRISH PRIDE

The Weir

After the grand finale my followers and I are still talking and reading about The Weir and Abbey Theatre! Three weeks ago we couldn’t imagine that …๐Ÿ˜ƒ So, a play can really become such an impressive and awesome “friend” that accompanies our days and fill our dreaming minds. “To me a play, or any art is just like the paintings on the cave walls that the first human beings did. So whatever picture I make up there on the wall, or on the stage, is some aspect of how it feels to be alive. And all I’m doing is drawing myself,or just people, up on the wall of the cave , just to have a look and try to understand the mystery of being here on this big rock in the middle of a vast space we know nothing about. And just like those cavemen, I think the drive to do it is very primal “ ( Afterword from Conor McPhersonโ€™s Plays Two, NHB).

Rehearsal Draft

Well, you know, The Weir, Abbey Theatre and William Butler Yeats are definitely EMBLEMS OF IRISH CULTURAL PRIDE. Let’s discover why!

Abbey Theatre, Dublin

Created by visionaries, the Abbey Theatre has always been an arena for art and ideas. The Abbey Theatre was founded as a national theatre for Ireland by W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory in 1904. These revolutionaries defined the ambition of the Abbey Theatre with their manifesto โ€œto bring upon the stage the deeper emotions of Irelandโ€.ย  ( from Abbey Theatre website)

At the Abbey Theatre, by W.B. Yeats

In short, the cultural Irish Leader Yeats, the historical Abbey Theatre and this phenomenal Production of The Weir are all examples and strong symbols of the POWER OF ART AND CULTURE.

Poem by W.B. Yeats

All art that is not mere storytelling, or mere portraiture, is symbolic, and has the purpose of those symbolic talismans which medieval magicians made with complex colours and forms, and bade their patients ponder over daily, and guard with holy secrecy; for it entangles, in complex colours and forms, a part of the Divine Essence.

Supreme art is a traditional statement of certain heroic and religious truth, passed on from age to age, modified by individual genius, but never abandoned.” (W.B. Yeats)

Art is the product of our dreams

And now, dear readers, let’s admire together all the photographs which my friends and I have found on Abbey Theatre ‘s account about THE WEIR PRODUCTION (congratulations to Mr. Ros Cavanagh ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ€)

Finally, we hope you enjoyed this enchanting Photo Gallery and may every play, every poem and every music composition be an emotional and intense cultural gift bringing us happiness and dreams . Particularly after the difficulties and the obstacles of last three years marked by a pandemic, a war and an economic crisis, I believe that every human being has responsibility to make things better through the STRONG POWER OF CULTURE in order to create a more shining and kinder world, a new Spring overcoming the darkest winter.
