After the grand finale my followers and I are still talking and reading about The Weir and Abbey Theatre! Three weeks ago we couldn’t imagine that …😃 So, a play can really become such an impressive and awesome “friend” that accompanies our days and fill our dreaming minds. “To me a play, or any art is just like the paintings on the cave walls that the first human beings did. So whatever picture I make up there on the wall, or on the stage, is some aspect of how it feels to be alive. And all I’m doing is drawing myself,or just people, up on the wall of the cave , just to have a look and try to understand the mystery of being here on this big rock in the middle of a vast space we know nothing about. And just like those cavemen, I think the drive to do it is very primal “ ( Afterword from Conor McPherson’s Plays Two, NHB).
Well, you know, The Weir, Abbey Theatre and William Butler Yeats are definitely EMBLEMS OF IRISH CULTURAL PRIDE. Let’s discover why!
Created by visionaries, the Abbey Theatre has always been an arena for art and ideas. The Abbey Theatre was founded as a national theatre for Ireland by W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory in 1904. These revolutionaries defined the ambition of the Abbey Theatre with their manifesto “to bring upon the stage the deeper emotions of Ireland”. ( from Abbey Theatre website)
In short, the cultural Irish Leader Yeats, the historical Abbey Theatre and this phenomenal Production of The Weir are all examples and strong symbols of the POWER OF ART AND CULTURE.
